Had Wisdom Teeth Removed. Jaw Is Swollen And Painful, Uncomfortable To Sleep , Eat Or Even Move. Advise?
Hello I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed 6 days ago. And my jaw seems to be swelling more and more all the time. It's Very uncomfortable to sleep , eat or even to move around. The pain seems to be getting worse as time passes. Is this an infection or just normal healing and swelling ? Jaw and cheek are swollen as big as a tennis ball
hello swelling after the extraction is normal and part of the normal healing. you continue with the prescribed antibiotics and analgesics. also maintain good oral hygiene. do warm saline rinses regularly. swelling will decrease with time. thanks
Hi, Thanks for asking As you have undergone extraction of 4 wisdom teeth, so post extraction pain and swelling are common. Apply ice packs over the swelling. Take antibiotic coverage. Maintain good oral hygiene. Use antiseptic mouth wash. Rinse your mouth with warm saline water after every meal. Your swelling will resolve in 4-5 days so don't worry. Take care
Hello Welcome to HCM I would like to tell you that wisdom teeth extraction is not a simple extraction. Its somewhat complicated surgical procedure & there are many post extraction effects that are seen like:- -prolonged numbness due to local anaesthesia effect -pain -swelling -difficulty in opening mouth -fever -malaise You don't need to worry for any of these symptoms. Take some rest & start with amoxiclav-625 twice a day along with zerodol-SP twice a day. Also take some multivitamin & antacid like rabeprazole 20 mg if acidity persists.Take all this for 3 days. Along with that start warm saline rinses 24 hrs after extraction. This will help in healing. Consult your dentist if problem persist.
Welcome to hcm forum. Extraction of 4 wisdom teeth together is certainly a traumatic experience to the patient. Even if it is done under general anesthesia the post operative sufferings will be more. But after 6 days of the procedure the swelling and pain should start reducing. I do not know whether the extraction is done without cutting some amount of bone or bone cutting was necessary. If there was bone removal, and proper cooling was not done, there is always a chance of huge and prolong swelling due to inflammation. I do not know what kind of medicines were prescribed to you. You can take serratiopeptidase 15 mg three times a day, in full stomach OR chymotrypsin 100000U four times a day, 1/2 an hour before food along with your prescribed medicine. These will aid to reduce your inflammatory swelling. Continue Antibiotics and analgesics prescribed to you. Consult your dentist if the swelling does not reduce substantially with two more days. Get well soon.
hi... thanks for the query... don't worry about the swelling... it will go eventually with time... mild to moderate pain is common after wisdom tooth extraction... you must be on painkillers and antibiotics too... if pain is severe, visit your dentist again, get your area checked for DRY SOCKET.... do warm saline rinses 6-7 times a day... take care...
