Had Wisdom Teeth Removed. White Tissue Discharge. Dry Socket?
Hi, I had my wisdom teeth taken out about a week and a half ago and had no problems what so ever with them. In fact I was off pain medicine on the third day and only had minor swelling to show what had happened. About half an hour I was brushing my teeth and this piece of clear-white tissue came out along with some dark brown streaks on it. It came out of the lower gum socket that has been catching food a lot. Early it had been bothering me and I cleaned it out, but it still felt like there was something in there. So I'm wondering if that was in fact part of the important healing process or a piece of food? And if it was important is there any chance that I still might get a dry socket or have it get infected? Sorry about this being so long. Thank you so much!! ~Ana
Welcome in the forum. I do understand your concern about some objects coming out from healing tooth socket. Here you have to remember two things. Firstly , 'Dry socket' is a painful condition and generally highly tender, i.e. painful to touch because of inflammation and exposed bones of the socket, Secondly, if suture is not given to a extracted socket or if the suture is loosened, the socket always healed from the bottom towards the gum line, making a halo space for some time. As the epithelial tissue forms a lining over the healing tissue , there is usually no pain during this period. As you have not complained about any pain, you do not have dry socket and it does not generally develop after ten days of extraction. Now, the part you said came out of that place is most probably some food particles. As I wrote, in that healing socket some food impaction is not uncommon. Do not try to use any tooth pick to remove the food particle, it may injure the healing soft area. Just wash your mouth frequently with clean water( saline is of no use at this stage) to keep the socket clean. If still you feel some object is trapped into that area, visit your dentist, he will remove the food pieces if any. get well soon.
hi it doesn't seems to be a dry socket because its usually very painful... and as long as you are not having any pain, its fine... just make sure that your healing area is clean and that you can do by doing warm saline rinses 5-6 times daily... if still problem persists, seek your dentist please... hope it will help you... take care...
Hi Welcome to HCM As you mentioned this is not a case of dry socket because dry socket causes extensive pain.White tissues can be granulation tissue that is formed while healing. It can be remaining abscess with associated tooth. You need to betadine gargles & warm saline gargles 3 times a day. Complete your course of medicines. Consult your dentist for complete check-up .
