Had Wisdom Tooth Removed. Excessive Saliva. Had Gum Stitches Removed. Worried
Hey I just got my wisdom tooth removed 5 days ago. Went to see the dentist-on-duty today because I kept having excessive amount of saliva for the past 2-3 days which cause me to swallow a lot and each swallow cause me to feel pain on the wound (like being stretched due to tightness). Anyway the dentist removed one of the stitches (I had two) and tried to remove the other one but unsuccessful, I don t know what she did (she did cut something) but the stitches in the end went inside my gum!! She then she said it is too deep and ask me to come back to see the oral surgeon 3 days later (I am supposed to see the oral surgeon to remove the stitches a week later after the surgery). I m so worried because now the stitches are total inside my gum/wound (can t see anything from the outside), how is the oral surgeon going remove the stitches if the ends are unreachable??

hello there, excessive salivation or hypersalivation is just a reactive process nothing to worry about. after oral surgery it takes minimum 7 days for wound healing.so you are advised for suture removal only after 7 days post surgery permitted your wound has closed and healed completely without any overlying infection or painful condition like dry socket. i hope everything goes well.all the best.

Excessive salivation is quiet normal phenomenon usually a wound heals in a week advised time for the suture removal is 7 days after the surgical procedure. .If the type of suture used is resorbable then no need to worry about the left suture material but if it is non-resorbable material then it has to be removed under local anesthesia or else it may lead to a secondary infection in the operated area.

excessive salivation usually occurs after tooth extraction.
oral surgeon uses suture removing scissors and tweezers for removing suture material.
no need to be panic.
it won't be painful.
please keep extraction socket area clean to avoid food lodgement and bacterial infection.
take complete course of antibiotics and analgesics prescribed by your dentist.
take warm saline rinses to gargle.
