Has Vertigo. Diagnosed With Hearing Loss Due To Weak Nerve. On Vertin, PAN. Cure For Symptoms?

My wife has dizziness for the last 15-20 days.She feels off balance while walking briefly for a moment and then feels ok;but do not get the confidence to continue further walking.First She consulted a family Physician who checked the blood pressure which was found low.(100/70);there after she had electral with glucose and the bp shot upto 130/80.She took the opinion of Cardiologist who checked up and said fine but may be slight vertigo.Again She consulted an ENT Surgeon who checked on audiometer and diagnosed to hearing loss due to weak nerve.and not vertigo.
He prescribed Vertin 16;Diligan 25; Complamina retard(Xanthinol Nicotinate);Acenac MR;PAN(pantoprazole)
for 10 days.She was slightly better but again feel dizziness if start walking.What may be the cause;
Can you please suggest some measures?
with regards,

dear Murali, welcome to HCM,

There are a few things which you need to know in the management of giddiness and its proper treatment. Let these be a checklist for you:

1. Giddiness is like a symptom akin to headache and it can be caused by a multitude of causes. If your wife has persistent giddiness then she should be investigated further in tests including ENG/ CCG/EEG and also imaging studies such as CT/MRI
2. In most of the cases however the cause cannot be ascertained and you need symptomatic treatment till such a time that your body can cope the balance adjustment.
3. Remember that there are three main components of balance, the inner ear, the eyes and the most important CNS (that includes brain and other sensors like the sensors in your joints)
4. Since now the ears have been found to be weak you need to re-enforce your eyes and brain so that they can work overtime to compensate and maintain balance.
5. Never walk in a dark room, always keep you visual field in the centre and never make sudden neck movements....this is how you help your vision
6. When you get up, do so ever so slowly and sit for a while then get up. Do not wear slippers in home, walk barefoot so that the brain gets help from the joint receptors. Use familiar routes and paths and always use the railings support when you use steps.
7. Ask your ENT for the vestibular rehabilitation exercise and do them regularly.
8. Remember that any anti vertigo medications are only for control of symptoms and none offer any cure. They are there only till such a time that your balance mechanism compensate and you no longer need any medication.

finally, DO NOT take absolute bed rest, the more you work the earlier the recovery. Just do everything in a slow and steady manner.

Imagine the brain to be like a muscle which needs to be exercised and your brain will do the work out for you!

get well steadily
