Has A Black Tongue. What Can It Be?
Hi my 3 year old daughter has a black tounge at the back the doctor said most probably stained from having black current squash and she needs to brush her teeth more and for me to brush her tounge a bit too. We ve been brushing for a week now and had no black current yet it s still there and looks worst. It doesn t hurt her and the doctor said there were no white spots to suggest thrush.

hello mam, usually the black tongue is due to poor oral hygeine. other causes are:-
1.growth of bacteria
2. growth of fungus
3. decrease water intake
4. some antibiotics
5. menthol or peroxide containing mouthwash
6. medication containg bismuth salicylate.
it is a harmless condition . you can have her brush her teeth twice a day along with tongue cleaning.
you can get the growth of bacteria or fungus investigated by taking the scrap from her tongue, by getting it done by a qualified person. thanks.
