Has Swollen Testicles. Done Hernia Surgery. Taking Antibiotics. Should He Take Blood Thinning Tablets?
Hello, one of my husband's testicles has swollen significantly after hernia surgery, approx. 3 weeks ago, and has become very sensitive to painful. He has already been back to the specialist who has given him a course of antibiotics (all of which he has taken) and blood thinning tablets (which he has not taken). A week further on, he is now complaining that it has got worse. Should he take the blood thinners and will this get better in the weeks to come or should he go back to the specialist? Many thanks. Karin
Hi, Epididymo-orchitis, which is swelling of testes and adjacent structures is a frequent sequel to hernia surgery, and is usually not related to infection. I think there is a case for use of anti-inflammatory agents in your husband's case, which should help ease pain and swelling. Scrotal support to rest the inflamed testes also will be useful. The pain will eventually go away, while the swelling might not ever become totally normal, but most patients are not too worried about that issue.
