Has The Belly Button Pierced Got Infected As There Is A Purple Lump Which Started Bleeding When Poked?

Hey, i got my belly button pierced about a month ago and now it has a purple lump on the side of it and its really soft like there was something inside of it so i poked a hole in it with a needle and pinkish stuff came out and then blood came out! Is it infected? Or is it goin to reject?

Thanks for your query.

The purple lump is nothing but collection of blood within the adjacent tissues, due to bleeding during the procedure.

If it had been infected, there should have been oozing of pus when you punctured it. Also, it should have been painful.


Nevertheless, consult your doctor who will give a small cut and completely drain out accumulated blood. Depending on the presence/absence of pus in the drained fluid, he will decide whether the lump is infected or not. if infected, he will prescribe a short course of antibiotics to cure and dry it.
