DEAR SIR/MADAM

DARK BROWN SPUTUM INDICATES OLD BLEED FROM BLOOD VESSELS. MOST COMMONLY IT MIGHT BE BE FROM GASTRO INTESTINAL TRACT. MAKE SURE THAT IS IT COMING FROM RESPIRATORY TRACT OR GI TRACT.
SEND FOR SPUTUM EXAMINATION WITH CULTURE AND SENSITIVITY.
IT IS VERY COMMON IN COPD AND PATIENTS WITH PULMONARY EDEMA. IT WILL BE FROTHY SPUTUM. SO GET ONE CHEST X RAY AND EVALUATE.
