What are the chances to get Kartageners Syndrome from mother to child? and what kind of precautions can i take while doing IVF for not to get Kartageners syndrome from me to my child. IF we have done any Genetic test while doing IVF, is there any possibility to reduce the Quality of Embriyo? pls let me know ASAP. Iam planning go for IVF in March-2013. ThanQ in Advance.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Kartagener's syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder. Autosomal diseases are ones which are not transmitted by sex chromosomes. They diseases are transmitted by somatic chromosomes. Kartagener's syndrome is genetically heterogeneous and it is caused by mutation of a large number of genes. There is no possibility of transmission of the syndrome as it is an autosomal disease. IVF involves retrieval of ovum, allowing the ovum and sperms to meet, allowing the zygote to grow in culture plate and final implantation in the uterus. The entire process is done under the superfivision of an infertility expert. The choice of embryo is not going to affect the transmission of the syndrome.
