Have Mirena Coil. Stopped Hormone Replacement Therapy Patches As They Were Causing Migraines. Suggestions?
I'm 54. had the mirena coil for 10 years and I just been taken off Evorel 25 patches after 3 months as I started monthly migraines. My Dr said she wouldn't b prescribing any further Hrt for me because of the associated risks of stroke. I asked her if I could I have the mirena coil taken out and given a combined hrt instead but she said the outcome of me would be the same (migraines). I'm not so sure. Whar's your opinion please?
hi, mirena in itself has few side effects. they are 1.irregular menstrual problems. 2.headaches. 3.cramping 4.menstrual pain
this combined with hrt has additive effect when it comes to migrane hence your OB/GYN is correct in stopping the treatment for now. you can continue the treatment after a period of two to three months given that your migranes stop. taking out the mirena wouldnt be of help as the headaches are due to increase in the hormonal levels caused by the hrt therapy. hence the correct approach here would be to wait.
thank you , wishing you good health
