Have PMR. Severe Pain In Hands, Affecting Sleep. Was Prescribed Prednisone. What Can Help?

My husband was prescribed predisone for PMR and just came off the drug about a week ago when out of the blue he started having severe pain in both his hands that wakes him up in the middle of the night and nothing seems to relieve the pain until morning at which time he feels like his hands are taunt put the pain stops until he goes to bed.
He was on this drug for approximately 18 months and is also diabetic .

he needs to be checked for arthritis, and may need to be on disease modifying drugs for the same.as prednisone is only suppressing the symptoms, and he is probably flaring because he has stopped the medication.
