Have PMS Symptoms, Unprotected Sex Day Before Insertion Of Mirena. Is This Side Effect Of Hormones In Mirena?
I had my paraguard IUD removed (after 10 years) and the Mirena inserted. The day before this procedure I had unprotected sex. My period should have started a few days ago, but it hasn't. I had the normal PMS symptoms - moodiness and tender breasts but no period. My breasts are still sore... Is this just a side affect of the hormones in the mirena?

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Intrauterine device if inserted with in 6 days of unprotected sex still provides contraceptive benefit by affecting implantation of conceptus with in uterus. so in your case mirena is helpful. Check for thread of mirena to confirm its position.(chances of expulsion in few women). Once its position is confirmed wait for some more days to start your periods naturally. If periods does not start consult gynecologist.
Reduced bleeding or no bleeding are side effects of mirena. but these changes will appear 3 - 4 months after its use. as hormone present on device needs time to act on endometrium. it unlikely to cause amenorrhea in first month itself.
Hope this helps you.
Regards
