Have A Barking Cough, With Greenish Phlem, No Fever. Sore Throat. Treatment?
I have a barking cough, coughing up greenish phlem, and lost my voice. I don't believe I have any fever and feel a little tired, but able to continue daily activities. I started last week with sore throat, cough and by Friday evening I lost my voice and coughing progressed. Do I need to see the doctor or will this pass?
The symptoms mentioned by you point towards a upper respiratory infection involving the larynx(voice box).Barking cough with minimal sputum and voice change occur in this.Laryngitis is usually viral and is self limiting. There is a possibility that the infection which is limited to upper respiratory tract now, may progress to involve the lower respiratory tract. This may be indicated by yellow sputum on coughing, fever etc.If this occurs ,then consultation with a doctor and a course of antibiotic become compulsory.Till then doctor consultation in optional in your case.
