Have A Oral Surgery To Be Put Under Propofol. Taking Methedone. Will This Work Or Not?
I am going to have oral surgery tomorrow and I am currently on 130mg's of Methadone from a Methadone Maintenance Program. The Oral surgeon is going to put me under with propofol, are there any concerns that the proprofol will not work or need more than usual? And do they use a prop/fetinyl general anesthetic or just the propofol?
Propfol is used as anesthetic for out patient surgery,as incidence of post operative nausea and vomiting is low.
supplementing with fentinyl varies from case to case.Decision is made by anesthetist depending upon duration and route of administration.
As such methadone interaction with propofol is not known,But both the rugs causes respiratory depression at particular dosage.
There fore i would like to advise you that please give your complete medical history to your oral surgeon,so that if required he/she can regulate the dosage of drugs that you are taking.
sometimes,it is also asked to discontinue the drug before any surgical procedure.
Therfore please discuss it with your oral surgeon before starting any procedures.
Hope it helps.
Thanks.
Take care.
