Have A Spiral Fracture, Double Broken Fibia Near Ankle. Tendon Ruptured. Should Stop Wearing Moon Boot?
I have a spiral fracture - double broken distal fibia near ankle on right leg...it was not surgically plated - displacement of 3mm but ankle space intact. Tendons ruptured both sides and not sure re archilles tendon etc...No scan able to be done where I live in NZ.5 weeks in and beginning to put on weight. Had a moon boot to wear 24/7. How active should I be on it and do I need physio . Should I stop wearing moon boot?
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
As you recently had fracture, Please avoid walking long distance, wearing hard shoes, weight lifting etc.
This may result in displacement of callus or hematoma formed at the fracture site. This ultimately end in Nonunion or Malunion.
As the tendon is also ruptured, you must need Physiotherapist advise for further exercise. Regarding wearing moon boot, better to limit the usage of moon boot. Do not wear it for 24 /7.
Hope this helps. Please reply for further queries. Wishing you good health.
Regards, Dr.Manjeth kumar.
