Have A Tooth Ache, Mouth Pain. Done X Ray. On Amoxicillin. Help?
I went to the dentist on Thursday with a toothache at te back top left hand side of my mouth and he done an xray and said I had an abcess. He prescribed me 250mg of amoxicillin to ake 4 times a day. I am still in pain 3 days later and it feels like a toothon the bottom near the front of my moth is sore. The pain is much worse at night.
Tooth pain indicates infection in the tooth involving the pulpal tissues, such type of tooth is treated with Root canal treatment to save it permanently.
The pain increases during night due to change in posture, when you lie down there is increase in pressure in the tooth increasing the pain simultaneously.
I would suggest you to get the clinical evaluation done, take an x-ray of the tooth.
Antibiotics and analgesics will give temporary relief, unless the tooth is completely devitalised by root canal procedure you will face pain.
Hello dear
Mearly taking antibiotics wont help.To treat a tooth with abcess, you have to go for eitherroot canal treatment ( RCT or extraction of this tooth. So better fix an appointment with your dentist and get this treatment done.

The tooth ache is associated with the abscess developed.
The pus has to be drained out through root canal treatment and curettage.
Infected pulp has to be removed completely.
Avoid chewing hard, solid foods at the treated area.
Intake of hot/apicy foods has to be limited.
Always maintain good oral hygiene.
Rinse your mouth after every meals.
Use chorhexidine mouth wash to gargle,
Take care.

Hi,
As per your description, tooth ache and mouth pain main cause is pulp infection which has progressed into periodontal abscess. This may be due to- Poor oral hygiene, systemic diseases like diabetes,epilepsy,auto-immune diseases, plaque and calculus deposition. Visit your dentist and get RCT done and take antibiotics and analgesic for swelling and pain. I would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline wateror antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.
