Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

To detect any type of cancer certain biopsies are done and mere glancing at a lesion cannot confirm a lesion to be cancer. Therefore please donot be worried.

Also give us complete history and symptoms so that we can arrive at a conclusion.

Does she has any pain, bleeding, tumor like growth in gum or jaw.

Does she find difficulty eating or swallowing? IF any habits, please mention.

Thanks.

Wish you good health.

Dentist, Pedodontics Dr. Amitabha Chakraborty's  Response
Hello. Thanks for the query. As per your query, No blotches on the tooth surface can never identifies any bone cancer. Even if I consider some mistakes in your query and accepts some blotches around the gum of your sister's tooth, still it is difficult to confirm a diagnosis of bone cancer just by seeing the blotches. Of course, I agree with you that it is scary when a doctor make such a comment by seeing a lesion only; weather it is on the tooth or over the gum. Cancer can not be disclosed to a patient or party until the doctor is very confident about it or the diagnosis is confirmed. Otherwise it is unethical from the part of a doctor. Any way, let her go for further investigations as scheduled. I hope she is not suffering from such a virulent disease. God Bless.

hello, friend please do not panic... only after seeing blotches one can not say that it is a cancer... it requires lot of diagnostic tests to declare it as a cancer. the most important symptom of bone cancer is that it is PAINFUL.pain is usually mild initially and gradually becomes more intense....
i feel you should visit some other dental surgeon and get it diagnosed correctly,, also friend please give the details about blotches exact site, painful, or something hard some kind of mass etc.. then it can only be confirmed..
hope it helps

Dentist Dr. Qazi Ammara's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Blotches on the tooth cannot be described as cancer, I would suggest you to describe the exact position of the lesion whether on the gums, adjacent tooth, what are the symptoms associated with it? is it associated with pain? is there any swelling, difficulty in swallowing? are you having any habits like smoking? is there any long term infection in the tooth?

A thorough clinical examination by the Dentist is required.
Also take an OPG radiograph.
A biopsy of the lesion is required to confirm the diagnosis.
Based on the daignosis the treatment plan s to be decided.
Maintain a good oral hygiene and take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.

Hope you find this as helpful,

Regards...
