Have Critically Low Ferritin Level Though Consume Lot Of Iron And Supplements. Any Suggestion?

Hi,

Have a critically low ferretin level and despite taking lots of extra iron and supplements, 6wks later my levels are a tad lower still.
Have been exposed to mould and would like to know if there could be a connection.
My skin on my face has also been diagnosed with a rocacea??? Never had as much as a spot.

Would appreciate some feedback, as I have hit a dead end.

Thank you

Hi!
Welcome to HCM!
Ferritin is a body protein that is used to store iron. It is the major iron storage protein of the body, so measurement of ferritin levels is an indirect way to measure the amount of iron stored by the body.

Iron deficiency takes time to correct. You may need to take iron supplements for several months or longer to replenish your iron reserves. If possible, take your iron tablets when your stomach is empty. However, because iron tablets can upset your stomach, you may need to take your iron tablets with meals.
Take iron tablets with vitamin C like glass of orange juice or with a vitamin C supplement. Vitamin C improves the absorption of iron.

However if it doesnt shows improvement then get an ultrasonogram and check whether you have been regularly taking a type of medicine that can cause gastrointestinal bleeding , such as ibuprofen or aspirin

hope this helps!
