Have Deviated Nasal Septum, Left Nostril Completely Blocked. What Are The Risks Of Surgery?
Hi Dr, my ENT has told me that I have a deviated nasal septum. and that my left nostril is almost completely blocked . I want to know 1) risks of the surgery (septoplasty + FESS) - especially if my only working nostril can get affected negatively by this sugery 2) how bad and how long will i have post surgery pain. My consultant ENT says that he uses no packs and the stitches are done using a thread that will decompose in around 8-10 days. 3) cost of the surgery. 4) i do workouts/gym etc. how soon can i restart this after the surgery. Thanks, Cyriac

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
1. Unless there are unusual complications, there is no swelling or discoloration to the external nose or face with septoplasty alone. Packing is rare with modern surgical techniques, but splinting the inside of the nose for a few days is common (these are not visible externally). One percent of patients can experience excessive bleeding afterwards — the risk period lasts up to two weeks. This could require packing or cautery, but is generally handled safely and without compromise of the ultimate surgical result. 2. For any surgery pain will be there for upto 2 weeks which can be manageable by medication. 3. Cost varies depending on surgeon 4. you need rest for a week, but need to avoid sudden pressure changes like sneezing and coughing till it heals minimum a month
Hope this helps you.
Regards
