Dear friend, welcome and thanks for entrusting your query here at HCM!
I am Dr. Prasad Akole (Critical Care Expert- http://bit.ly/Dr-Prasad-Akole) and am glad to address to your query here.

Your reported values are not conventional. Please specify the units the lab has reporetd. Normally it should be less than 1.2 mg%

Is it really creatinine (as urea is normal according to your post)?
Creatinine increases after significant portion of kidney function is already gone. So, we should be careful here, get a nephrology opinion. drinking too much water can cause fluid overload if kidneys are failing.
Be guided by medical experts.
Please confirm abnormal creatinine and get evaluated.
I hope you are fully satisfied with the guidance I gave.
I would be glad to answer any further queries. Please ask for any clarifications before closing and rating this answer.

Thank you and Good luck!

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

A high creatinine level is usually seen in kidney disorders which impair the normal function of the kidneys. But, in your case, as your doctor has ruled out all other causes of a high creatinine level, it could very likely be due to dehydration. But, high creatinine levels can also result due to intake of a few medications, as no drug history has been mentioned by you, I am assuming your wife is not on any medications, but if she is, then please run them through your treating doctor.

An elevated creatinine level is also seen in chronic conditions like diabetes mellitus, blood pressure, etc; but these can affect the creatinine level only if they are present for a long duration of time.

Diet should also be ruled out to be a cause as meat and a few citrus containing products can also cause an elevated creatinine. Kindly discuss a suitable diet with a nutritionist. This will also help in lowering the creatinine levels.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.

hello,
welcome to HCM,
as per the details u have given, it seems they are not realistic becoz, no body is going have this levels of serum creatinine 128!!!!! its a weird thing..nobody will be alive holding a such a level of serum creatinine...
as your GP said, serum cretinine increases after severe dehydration, but to some extent ..not soo much , that is called PRE-RENAL AZOTEMIA

but gradually comes to normal after proper re-hydration..
in this case it may be a laboratory problem, please re-check the values...

Hi
Rise in S. Createnine should not be taken lightly as it can cause health hazard impairing normal living. Proper investigations as rft, ultrasound and electrolytes etc are needed to form an opinion. Hypertension is a very important factor in such cases. The increased intake of water may not be justified as intake and output are to be measured in such cases. Patients usually start growing anaemic. In herbal medicines we use punarnava asav and punarnava mandur Better get expert opinion.
