Have Itchy And Swollen Lip With Red Bump. Could It Be Herpes?
every once in a while above my upper lip will itch and get swollen just a little bit most of the time i leave it alone but last night i itched it a few times and messed with it and when i woke up in the morning i had a tiny red bump right above my upper left tip on my lip. its not inside my lip at all and its pretty small but it itches and i m freaking out thinking its herpes . i have a fiance and neither of us stray, since the 5 years of us being together. is this normal? and could it be herpes?
hi..thanks for your query.
From the pattern of eruptions you describe,i feel you have Herpes Labialis. This is an infection of the lips, mouth, or gums due to the herpes simplex virus. It causes small, painful blisters commonly called cold sores or fever blisters. They usually appear within 1-3 weeks after you come into contact with the virus.
symptoms preceding eruptions include:Itching, burning or tingling of the lips or skin around mouth.
Symptoms may go away on their own without treatment in 1 to 2 weeks.Antiviral medicine can be prescribed. It can help reduce pain and make your symptoms go away sooner. Medicines used to treat mouth sores include:Acyclovir,Famciclovir,Valacyclovir. These medicines work best if you take them when you have warning signs of a mouth sore, before any blisters develop.
hope this helps..take care!
