Have Joint And Shoulder Pain After Testing Positive For HLA B27 Test. Why Has My ESR Level Risen?

hello sir,

I have HALB27 test positive. I am having jomt pain in my knees, shoulders. I am taking treatment since jan 2012. After taking treatment for 3-4 months I was ok for 7-8 months. but this june 2013 same problem comeout. This time I am taking treatment from june. but I dont get positive result. now my ESR is 100. what should I do???

Dear Friend.

HLA B27 is usually found in Ankylosing spondylitis , but can also be positive in other arthritis and autoimmune conditions.

Ankylosing spondylitis usually affects you back bone , and you have difficulty in bending due to stiff back.

Your pain in other joints and this much high ESR on treatment, calls for re consideration of diagnosis.

Let us know , what treatment you have recieved , any oral ulcers , any eye reddning problems , your blood pressure , any rashes.

Consult your doctor , and discuss about the following i
1. Autoantibody panel (including ANA , R-factor , Anti CCP antibody)
2. Repeat ESR
3. X ray Sacro iliac joints.
4. Eye examination for uveitis.
