Have Pain In The Foot. Painful To Walk, Hobbling Around. Saw ER, No Fracture, But There Is Inflammation. Treatment?

For the last 5 days now I have been unable to walk due to pain in my foot that after elevating, it has moved to my calf. It is very painful to walk and I have been "hobbling" around. I went to the ER and they said there is no fracture but there is inflamation around the ankle. What is going on with me? Now more than the ankle and foot my calf is hurting, making the whole leg hurt.

I do not want to give you a general answer. So if you can give me a few details, I can help you better.

Where exactly does it hurt? Does it move from the bottom of your foot to your calf when you elevate your leg? You say you have inflammation around the ankle. Is it just localized to your ankle or does your whole foot and calf appear red? Do you have a fever? Is the area warm to touch? Do you have bulging veins in your leg? Are you diabetic? is the pain associated with abnormal sensations like numbness or tingling? Did you have an injury prior to this? How much does it hurt on a scale of 1 to 10? does the pain increase on walking? have you had any recent surgeries or had long flights?

Hello,
You are not able to walk for the last 5 days because of pain in the foot. After elevation the pain has moved to your calf muscles and now the whole leg is painful. Any X-Ray taken to diagnose the condition as no fractures. You are diagnosed as ankle inflammation.
There are so many causes of ankle inflammation (some with some without swelling).
The causes of ankle inflammation are mild or serious injury, because of arthritis, muscle or nerve injury etc., Sometime injury can occur without your knowledge – like bending your ankle in a certain position, or a mild sprain leading to mild hematoma.
General Treatment: Foot elevation is a must. But more than that non weight bearing is more important. With this Ice sponging will reduce the edema and swelling if any.
The foot elevation should not be very high to disturb the vascular supply. It can be up to your heart level
Follow up treatment is as per the cause. Sometime compression and bracing may be necessary.
Overall mild elevation + non weight bearing + ice sponging along with medications like Antibiotic, Anti inflammatory and rest for 7 to 10 days will make you alright. The whole leg pain is due to your walking strain. Strictly no weight bearing please.
Wishing you speedy recovery
