Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

As the swelling is painful, it could be either infective or inflammatory in nature.

A detailed clinical examination & appropriate investigations are necessary to establish the correct diagnosis. FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) will provide the exact histological diagnosis.

In the meantime - use analgesic antiinflammatory medicines, ice packing over the affected area once in 2 hours to alleviate the pain.

Consult you family physician for further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
