Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had rip pain on my left side for over a month now. I had a pretty severe case of bronchitis for about a month, during which I first felt the pain. Now it has been over a month since I finished my antibiotics for bronchitis but my rib still hurts with deep breaths and certain sitting or lying positions. I am an 18 year old female and I weigh about 130 pounds.
Hi,
Although it was over a month ago that you had bronchitis, this pain may be related to this episode of illness. If you had a severe cough with the bronchitis you have possibly damaged a cartilage or even fractured a rib. This can cause prolonged pain in the rib area but it will eventually improve but may take a few more weeks.
There is also a possibility you have some pleurisy which is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the lungs. This can occur with any chest infection or bronchitis. This will improve over the next few weeks as well.
In the meantime, paracetamol and ibuprofen may help the pain.
I hope this helps you.

Dr K A Pottinger
