Have Panic Disorder. Stopped Xanax As Per Doctor. Racing Heart, Shaking, Buzzing In Ears. How To Stop It?

Hell Dr. Grief, I was taking Xanax since the 1990's. I started taking them with a Dr in Ohio, then I moved to Nevada in 2005. I found a Dr. here in Nevada that prescrided me the medication. I was taking 4 times a day 1mg. and then I got down to taking it 2 times a day. All of a sudden he takes me off this medication with no warning, just stop taking the medication. It has been hard, I deal with it every day, I suffer from panic disorder, sometimes when I am out around friends or family I just hope and pray that nobody can see me going through panic. My heart races, I feel like I am going to die, feel shakey also. since last week I been having this buzzing in my ears, and I am wondering if this buzzing is a side effect, and if so what can I do to stop it?

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

In drug treatment of anxiety two types of medicine used. For immediate relief of anxiety benzodiazepines group of medicines (like xanax) are used for brief duration (due to risk of dependence). For long term relief most commonly SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are used. SSRI takes around 3-4 weeks to show its effect, till that time benzodiazepines control the anxiety symptoms.

Xanax contain alprazolam. It is used only for short term control of anxiety. After long term use it never stopped suddenly, which can lead to withdrawal and rebound anxiety like in your case.

All these medicines are prescription medicine and given after in person examination by physician. So you can request your physician to restart treatment to relieve suffering.

Wish you good health and all the best.
