i have two prolasped dics L5 plus L4 which ive had a mri scan on but the left handside back muscle keeps going into spasm and feels like ripping or tearing which results the left handside hip sticking right out. it takes two to three weeks to get back to normal this has been happening on a regular basis for the last couple of years is there anyway to combat this problem as it is causing a major problem to work.

Hello,
Welcome at HCM.

I have read your question.

It looks from your details that you are having prolapsed disc at level L4-5.The prolapsed disc (if moderate to severe) may lead to pressure over the exiting nerve root ,this may lead to weaknes in affected muscles & numbness or abnormal sensation in affected part of limb.In your case you may have problem at outer aspect of your leg & foot.

You should do following to have relief in this-

-At least have MRI of back to rule out severity of the problem.

-Do rest.

-Avoid bending at your back.

-Take the help of a good physical therapist,he may provide you relief with help of ultrasonic therapy, infra red application, etc.

-Consult to your doctor specially an orthopedic surgeon. He may look at your MRI & DEPENDING UPON YOUR CONDITION MAY ADVICE YOU SURGERY OR CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT.

-Take a good nerve analgesic on prescription from your doctor.

Hope this all will help you.

With best wishes.
