Have Sore Lump Tear From Vaginal Delivery. Painful To Walk. Sutures Fell Out. Normal?
Hi, I recently gave birth to a healthy baby girl via vaginal delivery on April 12th. I suffered a 2nd degree tear in the process and had to have quite a few sutures. 3 weeks passed and I started to develope a swollen sore lump along the area where I was stitched. When I called my doctor they said that can happen when the stitches are ready to dissolve. Another week passed and it never got better. Well I went to my doctor yesterday and she opened the lump and pulled out a stitch. She then said I should be healed in the next couple weeks. When I got home I couldnt walk the area hurt so bad, so I talk pain meds and went to bed. When I woke up this morning Ive had about 3 sutures fall out, but my doctor is closed. Its been relatively painless compaired to the night before. Is whats happening normal? Or should I be worried that dissolvable stitches are now falling out after the procedure performed in the doctors office?
Starting from the very beginning. The lump that you first noticed is normally when healing takes place in such areas, especially when the healing tissue notices a foreign substance around it(the stitches), it tries to envelope these structures. But when the stitches dissolve, the healing process results in a properly healed and grown structure.
The sutures that have fallen out should not be a cause for concern, as they were to be absorbed either way, if they fell out, there is no concern for them to get absorbed, and thus the healing time does get shortened. I am sure you should be fine in no time.
I would only request you to keep an eye open for any bleeding or tear or any such effects that would be of concern. Other than that, there is nothing to worry about at all. This is all normal.
