Have Swollen Lymph Node On Side Of My Neck. Should I Be Worried About This?

I have had this swollen lymph node in the side of my neck for about 2 months. It is by the hairline at an angle from my ear. I don't have any other symptoms of anything else being wrong. It is about 1/2 inch and it rolls around in my fingers when I pinch it gently. It doesn't hurt at all I am just worried about what it is. My sister had the same thing and our doctor said it was benign and it would go away eventually. And it did, that was many years ago and now it is gone. I am going to call my doctor on Monday and find out more but for know I just wanted to find out as much as possible. Should I be worried about this?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
I would come up with these possibilities for such type of enlargement of lymph nodes on the side of neck , these includes.
1 Dermatitis or any infection in the scalp or hairs like dandruff .As this type of mild and chronic infection in the scalp or hairs develops enlargement of draining lymph nodes .If untreated they may vanish as with infection.Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical examination by a dermatologist.
2 Dental caries some times causes lymph nodes enlargement . Diagnosis can be confirmed by dental surgeon check up.
3 Tuberculosis , diagnosis can be confirmed by MOntox test , C B C , E S R ( blood examination ).
In my opinion consult a physician and get his opinion.
Good luck. Dr. HET
