Sore throat can be due to viral or bacterial infections. It is more common to have a sore throat related to viral than bacterial infection.
There are different options available for treatment. You and your parents can consider the use of oral gels , sprays or gargles .These often contain a mixture of a pain killer and anti septic and are available over the counter.
If the pain does not resolve then it is possible that it is a bacterial infection, in which case your doctor will give your parents a prescription for antibiotics for you.
I hope this helps
