Have Wrist Drop. Could You Advise Me Any Exercise To Do?
hi i have wrist drop, i have been to the doctors and the hospital. I have not been given a splint yet? Its been 3 days now, I have much better movement in fingers, but my wrist still hangs there? I have been referred to physio, but could you advise me on any excersices i could be doing now while i wait to see physio in about 2 weeks? thanks
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Injury to the radial nerve at the level of the axilla, upper arm or elbow results in wrist drop. You have not mentioned about the cause for your wrist drop. Because the management approach differs with the etiology (cause). Generally in any case of wrist drop (irrespective of the cause), all the small joints of the hand are put through a full range of passive movements inorder to avoid contractures. The wrist joint is splinted in extension (Dynamic cockup splint). If recovery does not occur over a period of time, then "tendon transfer" surgeries is the only remaining option. Hope this helps
