Having A Lot Of Dental Treatment Due To Gum Disease. Having Banging Headache, Vomiting. Why Is It ?
I am having a lot of dental treatment at present due to the fact I have gum disease. I had a pocket cleaning treatment at guys hospital, I was in the chair for 2 hours and I was constantly being topped up with a pain killing jab. At 4am the next morning I woke up with a banging headache and vomiting this lasted for 24 hours. I could not stand up straight I felt so awful. But I never made the connection with the dentist. This week I visited my local dentist to have a wisdom tooth out, once again within 24 hours of th treatment I am vomiting all day and unable to stand. Coinsidense or bad reaction? My worry is I have lots more treatment planned at the hospital and the dentist what can I do?
Thanks for the query in forum. I am seriously concerned about your repeated vomiting. The most common cause of vomiting after dental treatment is the side effect of some ant-iinflammatory drugs like ibuprofen group of drugs. Some antibiotics is also sometimes is not well tolerated and cause vomiting. Rarely the effect of local anesthesia that has been spread to the throat area also cause vomiting. As you did not mention that what are the drugs you have taken as per advise of your dentist, so it is difficult to predict the cause of your vomiting. if ibuprofen is prescribed to you. stop it and take simple analgesic like paracetamol 1 gm when required. paracetamol has least gatrointestinal effect and generally does not cause vomiting if not over dosed. Just stop the offending medicine and take some hours rest. Hope you will be fine. You can safely go for your 'gum treatment' and if you can able to notice which drug is causing your vomiting, inform your dentist in next visit. get well soon.
