Having Hiccups After Surgery On Right Shoulder. Took Keflex. Have Cardiac Problem. Underlying Cause

My husband who is 73 years old had surgery to his right shoulder yesterday. He is taking Keflex 500mg capsule QID along with normal daily medications. He started getting hiccups about 2 hours ago which he rarely if ever has. Is this a side effect from the anesthesia or something else. He has a cardiac condition so I am concerned.

Hello,

The effect of anesthesia goes off after hours of surgery. The hiccups may be due to gastritis follow nil per oral and post operative stress.
I would advice my patient to take anti acid to get relief from the hiccups.
If the hiccups persist then look for signs of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. To a serum electrolyte test. Consult with your doctor.
