Having Lipoma Under Right Scapula. Suggested To Remove And Do Biopsy. Any Chance Of Reoccurance After Removal?

Sir, One surgeon told me after clinical review that I have a lipoma under my right scapula. My age is 30, He told by clinical examination that it is not maligant but it can develop as that if I dont remove it, after removal he will do the biopasy. My question is even if I remove is there any chance of recurrance again in future

Hi thanks for using HCM.

Your question:Is there any chance of recurrance of lipoma.
Chance of recurrence is there but very rare as it is the normal fat tissue.

Lipomas do not generally require treatment. If any problem then only need to be removed. Lipomas are not cancerous growths and cannot become cancerous, they do not need to be removed. There is no known treatment to prevent lipomas or affect their growth.

Hope I answered your question. Wish you good health. Take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
This is to inform you that Lipomas are benign masses of fat deposition. They may develop anywhere and generally wont produce any symptoms except cosmetic blemish.
The very fact that you have gone to surgeon implies that you are having some symptoms with the lipoma under the scapula. The chances of a "Lipoma" turning malignant and becoming "Liposarcoma" is very very rare (may be around 1%). If you dont want to accept even that much risk, get it removed.
Generally, lipomas will not recur at the same site of removal but may develop at a different location. Hope this helps
