Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us.
Bend the knee and point down the ankle to shorten the muscle for about 3 minutes so it can relax. Massage the calf muscle. Then slowly straighten the knee. When you sit with the knee bent for an extended period of time, it decreases the circulation but partly cutting off the artery at the back of the knee. In the future, pull over at least once an hour and get out and walk around. However, leg cramps can be a sign or a nutritional deficiency or kidney problems, so be sure to talk to your doctor if you get them frequently. Also a heating pad to the calf or 15 minute soak in a warm bath should help.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
