This type of pain can occur due to sudden movement of neck. This causes muscle sprain and muscle tightness, so much so that even slightest movement become painful. I would like to suggest you Diclofenec gel and also muscle relaxant like Myoril or Myospaz. Local heat application also works. Do not use heavy pillow.
