Having Small Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. Prescribed Statin, Aspirin. Do You Think I Will Benefit From Taking Them?

Have a small AAA. Not particularly high cholesterol but mother died of it. Advised to take statin and aspirin if tolerated but watch for bleeding. Given the rotton horrors of statins and lack of will now to prescribe for healthy people, would these be of any benefit to someone like me with small AAA and family history of mothers burst and killed her.

you have a very partinant question. i think you have infrarenal(below the renal artery) aortic aneurism. you have not mentioned the exact size of the aneurism.
commonest cause of abdominal aortic aneurism is atherosclerosis. you have not also mentioned about your lipid profile. your age is also not clear. to take a decision regarding prevention of growth of aneurism, all these data will be helpful. although, statin therapy(in high doses) can cause regression of atherosclerosis and may slow down the growth of abdominal aortic aneurism, aspirin can only prevent thrombosis(blood clot formation) inside the aneurism but not the growth of the aneurism per se. what you should do, follow up the progression of the growth of the aneurism with abdominal CTscan at regular interval depending upon the size of the aneurism. if you do not have MARFAN'S SYNDROME or any other CONNECTIVE TISSUE DISORDER, corrective surgery should be taken up once it's diameter crosses 5 c.m.
