Having Tietze Syndrom And Also Pain In Other Parts Of The Body Including Jaw. Is This Possible?

I have tietze syndrom now for almost 4 months... It's not getting any better. Have attacks on my chest with an average of 2 times a week. Besides that i have regularly pain at other places in my body. Like arm, neck, shoulder, wrists, jaw, fingers. Sometimes It feels like the pain is in my bones.. Is that possible? Does it fit with the Tietze diagnosis? Also the pain n my jaw?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Tietze's syndrome is a condition specifically limited to the costal region, resulting in inflammation and pain. It appears as though you have the chronic form, as the acute and more mild forms resolve within 10-20 days.

Now coming to your query, pain in any other joints is not in any way associated with Tietze's syndrome, as mentioned in my previous paragraphy, Tietze's syndrome is strictly restricted to the costal region.

The fact that you are experiencing pain in other regions, joints, etc; could mean two things:
1. There could be another underlying undiagnosed condition that is causing the pain. I would request you to visit your doctor and get parameters like ANA, CRP, RF (rheumatoid factor), etc; checked
2. You could have been misdiagnosed to have Tietze's syndrome as your initial presentation was restricted to the chest/costal region. As treatment for any other condition would be different, this could also be the cause to your non-responsive state from treatment of Tietze's syndrome.

Please visit your doctor for a more elaborate evaluation and accurate diagnosis.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
