Headache, Affects Vision, Swelling. Taking Allergy Medicine. Reason?

my husband has for about 3 weeks now been having sudden onsets of extremely painful headaches,it comes on at no particular time of day.It effects vision in his right eye, makes it water up as if cryin but only in that eye cant see out of it and says feels like it swollen and about to pop out.they can last sometimes hrs or even a day.take allergy meds and also nsaids but sometimes they dont help.i have begged him to go to E.r but refuses he says he thinks its just sinus infection . can you tell me what it could possibly be,and the seriousness of it so maybe he will realize the severity and have it checked out .thank you

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,

I have analyzed your husbands problem and I feel that he may either be suffering from sinusitis and/ or from the infection of the lacrimal sac which we call the dacrocystorhinitis.

Meanwhile you may try a course of antibiotic like amoxycillin-clavulanate 625 for five days. Your doctor will know about this.

Take steam inhalation and gently massage your eyes in an attempt to drain out the lacrimal fluid or tears.

You may do the above and wait for a week for the symptoms to subside

If by the above medication and treatment he does not get better then you need to get a nasal endoscopy done and also get a CT scan of the nose and para-nasal sinuses and get back to me or an ENT with the reports.

take care and get well soon
