Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Heart Palpitation, Increasing Frequency. Habit Of Chewing Tobacco. Reason?
Hi
My husband used to use chewing tobacco. He said he would stop but I know he did not. Since he started this, he started having heart palpitations. At the begiing they were minor and happened rarely. But lately he has been having them often. I got suspitious and I hinted that it could be related to tobacco. I think he got scared of my comment, which is why I believe he stoped about 2-3 weeks ago....but still he is having them. Last week twice at night. Last night, the palpitations woke him up.
I don't know if I am crazy, but I think the tobacco is the cause of this.
I can understand you anxiety.Looking into you problem it looks like it is just not limited to tobacco chewing. You havent mentioned the age of your husband and other risk factors. Getting palpitations can be innocent also or may be related to some disease also but for saying that certain tests like ECG , 2 D ECHO etc. are required . Anxiety , Thyroid abnormalities etc . also needs to be ruled out . I advise you to immediately see a cardiologist to asess you completely , analyse your heart rhythm and guide you accordingly . Regarding leaving tobacco you need to consult some rehabilitation centre for that and consultancy with some psychiatrist.
If you have any further queries feel free to ask. Wish you good health. Take care. Dr. Shruti
