Hi, ive been bleeding very heavy with large bloodclots for 5 days. I have to wear a super tampon and a pad and have to change them every 1-2 hours. Ive never had anything like this before. I also have flu like symptoms. I saw a out of hours dr and he gave me a prescription to stop the bleeding. But im concerned why im am bleeding so heavy in the first place. I am 33.
Hello Thanks for your query. You should see a gynecologist immediately. Such heavy bleeding with clots is not normal. It could lead to anemia, infection etc. The first possibility is a miscarriage. Other reasons are polycystic ovaries and endometrial hyperplasia leading to an abnormally heavy period. Hormonal imbalance could cause build up of endometrial lining and then when it is shed off, it presents this way. A biopsy should be done if pregnancy is ruled out. Take care.
