Heavy Sensation On Right Temple, Worst While Sitting Down. Is It Serious ?
hi i am having heavy sensation on my right temple side of my head..being having it for the past 1 year on and off. it gets worst when i am sitting down and suddenly i just stand while my head is looking down it feels so heavy on the right side of my head as if the pressure is pressing the skull of my head. can you help me and tell me is it serious?
Headache localized to one side of the head can be due to giant cell arteritis. However, this is one of the many possibilities that can cause unilateral headache. You need to get some investigations. ESR is an important investigation which is raised in almost all the cases of giant cell arteritis. This is an autoimmune vasculitis (inflammation of large sized blood vessels). Besides ESR, a vessel biopsy may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.
But you need to consult your physician for clinical examination and relevant investigations. CT head may be required to look for any mass lesion in the brain and status of the ventricles. Further management will be guided by the result of the investigations.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
