Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I recently (about 2 weeks ago) participated in my first marching band parade. I play snare drum, and the drum weighs about 25 lbs and hangs off my shoulders. I also play lacrosse on a high school team every day for 4 hours a day. The day after my first 3 hour long parade I noticed heel and Achilles pain . It has progressively gotten worse, and now it s not a sharp pain it just aches. I have continued to practice and run with the team. I take acetaminophen before practice to ease the pain.

Heel And Achilles Pain, Taking Acetaaminophen
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Most propably, you might be suffering with Achilles tendinitis. The main aim of tendinitis treatment is to relieve pain & reduce the inflammation. The general guidelines of treatment includes REST, ICE PACKING and over the counter pain killers like Motrin or Aleve. Sometimes an injection of corticosteroid around the inflammed tendon will provide good pain relief. At times, Physiotherapy will also work by undergoing a specific exercise programme designed to stretch and strengthen the affected muscle tendon unit. Hope this information is helpful. Good day
