I've started itching all over my body - without any rash- 2+ weeks and continuing. It seems to be worse at night but it never goes away. I scratch to the point where I break the skin. I also get chills that occur when I scratch. I haven't been sleeping very well at all (already a light sleeper- take Ambien). I'm fatigued, a little scared and becoming depressed. I saw GP (Wednesday) and he gave me a cortisone shot, gave me some crème, prescription for atarax and referred me to dermatologist. After a few days (no change in condition) - the dermatologist said it was probably an infection related issue and gave me prescription for doxepin (night) and over the counter allegra and zertec(?) - said treating with an antihistamine cocktail was best plan. I'm still itching like crazy after a few days.
How long will this take to subside and what if it doesn't.
I have had an itchy skin issue that occurred about 2 years ago - but nothing like this.
