Herniated disk in L5-S1 lumber i am in treatment in last 10 months.but no rilefe iam a state cricket player is this problem will remove full, and can i play cricket any more what can i do for it i want some advice thank you... SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
Hai,
1. Not all herniated disc needs surgical removal. If you dont have any signs of nerve root compression like pins and pricking sensation in your leg and foot or numbness in your leg and foot, then physiotherapy like pelvic traction and back strengthening exercises might relieve your symptoms.
2. Since it has been already 10 months of treatment (should be physiotherapy) with no relief of your symptoms, you might need surgical removal of the herniated disc.
3. You can play cricket again after few weeks of physiotherapy to your back after surgery.
So, i would advice you to consult your doctor again with a repeat MRI scan of your lumbar spine and decide on further treatment.
hi
welcome to HCM
its okay for your bad English :)
herniated disc causes pressure on the spinal cord hence causing compression of the spinal cord between the vertebral bodies and resulting in the symptoms like pain in the lower back radiating to the legs. numbness of the legs and itching sensations. 2 types of the management can be done for it.
1. conservative which includes of strong analgesics and vit B 12 complex along with physiotherapy and complete bed rest for about a month.
2. surgical: it is indicated in the patients who do not show response to the conservative management or becomes more worse and develop neurological deficits like loss of sensory or motor functions. the surgery includes complete or partial removal of the disc and is has a very good prognosis. and after 2 months of surgery you can play your sports. so for proper management consult neurosurgeon.
thanks
get well soon
