High PSA Level, Prostatic Area Is Different Texture. Done Scan. What Does This Denote?
Hi, I have been diagnosed to have PSA level of 14.4 as against 4.The urologist advised me to get scan report. The scan report also indicated that a small portion of the prostatic area has a different texture. on seeing the report the Urologist suggested use of antibiotics for a fortnight and a PSA test after another fortnight. Is it in a right direction? Warm regards. K V Bhardwaj. Email Id : YYYY@YYYY
Hi PSA level has many causes, though the most concerning cause is prostate cancer, however it is only one of the potential causes of elevated PSA.
Other most common causes are benign hypertrophy of prostate, prostatitis.
So your doctor is mainly treating you on the lines of prostatitis, most likely he will get your PSA levels checked again after the course of antibiotics to look for any recovery. If no changes are seen in repeat PSA levels then likely it is to be investigated further.
Regards.
