High Calcium And Potassium Levels, Thyroid Tumor Removed, Painful Abdomen. Liver Problem?
I found out today that my calcium and potassium levels are high. My doctor also ordered a PTH test for tomorrow. My BUN was off by only 1 point.... what does this mean? My son was diagnosed with B`cell Non-Hogkin Lymphoma a few years ago and had elevated calcium level. I have also had a thyroid tumor removed a number of years ago. Could any of this relate to liver function as well? My upper abdomen has been very painful. Thank you.
A difference of one point is really if nos clinical significance, therefore you should not be bothered by that. Calcium metabolism is partly controlled by the thyroid gland, which secrets hormoes. Glands on in the thyroid called the parathyroids play this role. removal of thryroid gland has repercussions on Calcium metabolism. It is therefore justified to control blood Calcium levels regularly. Calcium and potassium metabolism are very closely related, alterations in one usually play on the other. I suggest you consult your doctor for a complete review and undertake regular checks for thyroid function. Thanks and kind regards. Bain LE, MD.
