High Fever. Temp Reduces With Tylenol/motrin Only For Hours. Informed There Is Virus. Help?

My two year old has ran a high fever for three days. The temp will come down with Tylenol/motrin only to return in a few hours. He threw up a few times the day the fever started and has complained of his head being "broke". We saw his ped yesterday and was told it was just a little virus, but I am concerned that it is more than that.... Help ease my mind please!!

Pediatrician 's  Response
In viral fevers, particularly in children, fluctuation of temperature will be there and usually it subsides by 5-7 days,if there are no complications and simple antipyretics with tepid water sponging of the body is that is needed and if fever continues even after 7 days, then definitely the child should be examined by a Pediatrician, and if necessary lab.investigations may be done to diagnose and proceed further.
