Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son (16) hit his forehead on a matted wall pretty hard today during wrestling practice. Now he says he has a slight headache but is really tired. I m concerned because he is just sitting on couch watching tv and not on computer or playing video games per usual. He s always been a non complainer. Mother s intuition, but it s not like him to just sit. He says he wants to lay down and sleep, but I always heard never let someone sleep after they ve hit their head. Please advise. Thank you! -a worried mom
Hi,
If he hit his forehead pretty hard then it would be better if you can take him to the hospital for a routine check-up as many such patients might have a collection of blood underneath the skull which might not be clinically evident immediately. The symptoms typically evolve over the next few days so it is better if the person is checked early. Also, he can take analgesics for his headache. I do not wish to alarm you but would like you to take the necessary precautions.
