Hello Doc My 13 year old boy has got hurt on his knee and elbow while diving to take a catch.the wounds are red open and painful. Please suggest what to apply.Should i bandage or not after applying Neosporin powder.I have read that manuka honey is very beneficial but dont know where it is available. Can I apply normal honey that we eat? Please advice. Thanks and regards
Hi sangitam,
I am really concerned that your child has an injury.
Any injury due to rubbing with ground needs to be cleaned well with soap and water to remove dirt. Its good to apply antibiotic cream like neosporin or polysporin. Don't apply honey as sugar containing items can help growth of bacteria. Its advisable to apply dressing as it keeps infection from entering in. Dressing should be changed atleast daily or whenever it gets soaked very much.
Consult your doctor if it takes longer time to heal or pus starts coming from wound.
If you have not given TT at 10 years, its always advisable to give TT.
Don't worry he will be alright. Take care.
